Here's where we start:
There are no good films or bad films, there are films you like, and films you don't like. What's more, there's little to no way you can see a film and then walk out of an auditorium with a self-contained perfect understanding of that film, like a pearl, something hard and timeless, which is in no way affected by your own unique set of experiences, or the passing of time. And no one person's opinion will ever be the same as yours. Ergo, all film reviews are pointless.
Having said that, inside here you'll find my film reviews.
It might help if you know my particular preference towards film: I'm not looking for a good story, I'm looking for something that works towards giving insight into what it is to be alive, to be human.
There will be no spoilers, and no discussion of the films themselves: who made them, who's in them, what they're about, etc. You can get that kind of stuff anywhere. Instead, I'll be looking at issues that aren't explicitly on the screen, but are representative of the mindmap that is created while I'm watching a film: issues of philosophy, art, gender, and the like. So these are atypical 'reviews' intended to be launching pads for discussions that you will continue in your own head.
And here's the map:
You'll see the most recent films at the top of the page, and older reviews under the 'more' button.
Gee, I hope you like them.
